Headphone check

Headphone test

Check both sides with repeatable references and capture the result as evidence.

Before you begin

Start at a low device volume. No sound starts automatically. Use Stop all audio at any time.

Earpiece and balance check

Headphone sequence

Check each earpiece separately, compare centered balance and finish with a short range sweep.

Run one reference at a time. Record what you actually hear before changing the setup.

  1. 01

    Left earpiece

A 500 Hz tone should appear only in the left earpiece.

    Record this reference
  2. 02

    Right earpiece

The same 500 Hz tone should appear only in the right earpiece.

    Record this reference
  3. 03

    Centered balance

Pink noise through both channels should appear centered rather than pulled to one side.

    Record this reference
  4. 04

    Short headphone sweep

A 200 Hz to 8 kHz sweep helps reveal a repeatable dropout or buzz.

01

What this can prove

The test can reveal an audible imbalance or missing channel in the current complete path.

02

What it cannot prove

One failed listening test cannot determine whether the headphones, cable, adapter, device or software caused it.

03

Privacy and safety

Signals and analysis stay in your browser by default. Browser dBFS is not physical SPL.

How to use this test

Keep the comparison controlled.

  1. 01

    Wear the headphones normally

Confirm left and right orientation and keep operating-system balance centered.

  2. 02

    Check each earpiece

Run the left and right references before comparing the centered signal and sweep.

  3. 03

    Retest on another path

If a problem appears, repeat the same reference on a second device before assigning a cause.
